Tide Spring is a natural spring in the Linville area that flows intermittently. Thomas Jefferson in his Notes on the State of Virginia (Page 34) calls it a “siphon spring.” He wrote there was “a grist mill that grinds two bushels of grain at every flood of the spring.” Today this flows for several minutes before the siphon ends. During dry spells it can be half an hour or more between intervals and less in the spring or rainy weather. The temperature of the water flowing from the spring is a constant 55-57 F year around. Tide Spring water flows into Linville Creek. It is on private property and one can ask at the house for permission to walk to it.
